About Cris Burks

Cris Burks is a writer who, at her best, uses words to paint a vivid portrait of everyday life. Her first novel, SilkyDreamGirl, expounds upon every woman’s desire to be appreciated for her own self-beauty. Katie Coomers is encumbered by other’s image of her. When she embraces herself, others also embrace her. They accept Katie’s strengths and weaknesses.

Neecey's Lullaby, her second novel, is semi-autobiographical and depicts the trauma of neglect and child abuse..

Cris' poetry and other short stories have been published in many literary magazines and anthologies including Gumbo: A Celebration of African American Writers, The Thing About Second Chances, and The Thing About Love Is...

Cris earned her Masters of Fine Arts degree from Columbia College where she taught fiction writing for more than seven years. She considers herself a Chicagoan although she was born in Mississippi and has lived in several states including Ohio and South Dakota. Currently she resides in Sacramento, California.
